The interior designer to follow in 2019 is…drumroll….if only it were that easy.

There are few fields that are quite so intriguing as interior design. There are so many variables involved.

Which is the most important factor that an interior designer would focus on? Allowing natural light to filter throughout the design space? Or keeping a watch over the color balance?

Do designers prefer modern styles? Or are they going vintage this year? Do they even have a preferred style?

To help you make sense of it all, Searchmetry went ahead and asked 30 designers about their favourite design projects.

Here they are…

The Cherry Cricket

studioM2 designed the second location of The Cherry Cricket – The Cherry Cricket Ballpark – in downtown Denver in collaboration with MA Architects. The location used to be a brewery. It was to become a multi-service facility with a bar, a game arcade, dining spaces that could be rented for events and a communal dining area.

And accordingly it was done, with the arcade being given an authentic vintage touch, the dining spaces for events being given a private and formal touch while the communal dining area was made less buttoned-up. Overall the entire place was given a cozy and casual feel.

Holiday inn renovation

This was the renovation of the Holiday Inn La Mirada. The focus was keeping the palette neutral, and choosing warm shades; combining geometric perfection with more organic forms; and, finally, emphasizing the right balance of style and comfort.

Element Park Meadows

The emphasis here was on giving natural light a route through the whole room and enhancing its effect. Hence the bias towards whiter shades. The perfect geometry in this case retains a funky feeling while the seating arrangements ensure an adequate element of comfort.

Custom Home Dining Room

Shown above is the dining room of a custom home we designed that is located in Olivenhain, CA. I love the neutral palette with the soft linen upholsteries contrasted by the dark wood tones. The touches of crystal, alabaster and brass of the light fixtures add a touch of elegance and glamour in which all comes together as a beautiful space for friends and family to gather and enjoy a nice meal.

1950’s Home Renovation

This house is a big one for us as it was just featured on the cover of a design magazine with a nice 10 page spread. We did a major renovation on this 1950’s home- it used to be covered from head to toe in brown wood with green carpet!
We added windows, pushed the wall out to create the large window seat you see off to the right, which sits on top of the new hearth/fireplace design we did (the copper hood was original  to the house, we incorporated it in the new design). The large sectional we designed custom and furnished the home with unique pieces.

Kitchen with bar

This is one of my favorite kitchen designs of 2018.
I love how clean and integrated everything is… but I didn’t want to do everything in white so I contrasted the island and bar mill-work with a custom stained white oak wood in which I feel played a nice contrast to the white lacquered cabinetry.
We fully reconfigured the space to create a larger kitchen and opened it up to the living room by creating a bar area in which is great for entertaining or can act as a second sitting area within the kitchen area.

Kitchen Sink

The kitchen sink has been given a modern touch, with shades tending towards glazed/bright white and a window in front allowing for adequate light and ventilation.

Designed By: Danielle Monteverdi

This house was located on farmland. Just as the owner wanted, this design retains some of the simplicity of a typical farmhouse but also makes the room luxurious and relaxing.

Designed By: Danielle Monteverdi

A seamless combination of chic and comfort was the mantra I followed in this one. Hence the more than adequate seating arrangements, consisting entirely of comfortable chairs and a sofa; with an eye-catching striped color pattern for the rug and a black and white chequered armchair.

About

Associated with various interior design-related organizations like the Real Estate Staging Association and Association of Design Education, Ms Thurman’s interior design career started when she redesigned her own home before selling it (the sale was a rare spot of success in the infamous tanking housing market of 2007). She has since moved from strength to strength in the world of interior design.

Urban Bedroom

I designed this bedroom for my client's beautiful loft condo in the Bucktown neighborhood of Chicago. He wanted something masculine and bold, but colorful and interesting.
The answer was to layer several gray and black patterns, then offset them with pops of vibrant teal and coral - colors we pulled straight out of the artwork featured above his headboard.

Image Courtesy: Eye to Eye Interiors, LLC

Suburban Master Bedroom

Our client in the suburbs wanted a romantic master bedroom, complete with the glamorous, chic sitting area that you see here.
A curved velvet sofa was the perfect match to the curve of her bay window. Textured fabrics and canvas in light grays, soft pinks and rich blues make the space feel luxurious. A bit of chrome and marble (and some sparkle from a nearby chandelier) add to the elegance. It's the perfect setting for a cup of tea in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening.

Sitting Room

This sitting room is one of the first impressions you have of my client's lake house in Wisconsin.
The homeowner fell in love with these playful lion-print wingback chairs, so I brought in a slightly deeper, calming blue color on the walls to make the room feel as welcoming as possible. A subtle zebra striped area rug and elephant pillow gives a nod to the animal theme without going over the top. The Curry and Co. chandelier is probably my favorite element in the room - it reminds me a little of the stripes in the rug.

This project is the one that I am most excited about. It has been designed in 2018 but won’t be built until this spring. I decided to share it because I feel like it’s fun to see one kitchen two ways. I’m happy to share finished images in May! We are once again opening up a small plan foot print to maximize the space in the kitchen for guests and family meal prep.

Keller

This remodel was a full home remodel. Our client wanted to expand their once closed off kitchen and dining space to accommodate their many guests. They host church in their home most every weekend and they desired a space that could not only fit a lot of people, but would honor the character of this historic home as well as make people feel comfortable. Using real wood materials, prairie style glass cabinet doors, and bits of character in the crown molding, specialty light fixtures, makes this new space feel natural to the home. Their unfinished basement was transformed into a completely finished space including a full bathroom.

Norwalk Kitchen Living

This project is one typical of the Midwest. A home built in the 2000s needed a facelift. We painted the cabinets and created a one of a kind coffee bar with beautiful floating shelves. The fireplace got a complete makeover by being painted white, refaced in white brick, and styled by our team. The arabesque tile in white gave interest to the otherwise monochromatic color scheme. Lighting was key to impart personality to this project.

Far North Dallas, TX Remodel

This Far North Dallas project was one of my best designs of 2018 because we made some incredible changes by making a few simple upgrades.  I like to call it the power of paint!  Adding wood detail and natural stone to the fireplace also added a beautiful focal point for this room.

White Rock: Dallas, TX Remodel

This was my favorite transformation. We took a 50's build and completely redesigned the floorplan giving it a modern open layout.
We created a sleek, modern kitchen using white quartz counter tops, gray shaker cabinets, and a white picket mosaic backsplash. The old red brick fireplace was redesigned to create a gorgeous marble focal point.
The modern finishes and the dramatic transformation are what make this one of my best designs.

Talty, TX Remodel

This remodel project in Talty, TX is also in my top 3 because it is a great example of how to find potential in a structure and bring it back to life!
This 90's build has a great floor plan with some unique features, it just needed some changes to bring it up to date.  The old carpet was replaced with beautiful wood floors, the brass light fixtures were changed out and updated modern decorative lighting was added.  The kitchen had wood stained cabinets, wallpaper, and old appliances.
We painted the cabinets white, added granite countertops, a sleek charcoal gray subway backsplash, and under cabinet accent lighting. Stainless steel appliances were the icing on the cake! This home has 2 fireplaces which had red brick.  We replaced the brick with stacked quartz and the result was amazing!

Master Bath Remodel

This bathroom originally featured a typical soaking tub and enclosed shower converted to an stylish, contemporary wet room. We offset 12” x 12” mesh tiles on the walls and floor to bring more interest and pattern to the area. Niches and baseboards are finished off by a stainless steel liner. A fun project and drastic transformation!

The expanded fitness area and show garage features a custom painted high gloss concrete floor along with the most current high-tech equipment creating a stunning yet functional space!

A Modern Twist on a Traditional Home Design

This newly constructed home features a formal living area with a dramatically tall ceiling and elegant windows.

We introduced deep orange and cream accents to bring a modern twist to the traditional features of this beautiful room. It’s the Client’s favorite space to relax and gather with friends and family.

Porch Project

This fabulous custom designed porch rates as one of my all time favorite projects not only because it features dramatic architecture, a stunning focal point and a bold color scheme that brings the outdoors in along with a cool feature like a hidden TV, but also because I got to be involved with the conceptual design and collaborate with one of my favorite long term clients who has a great eye for design.

Transitional Master Bath

For this project we worked with these adorable brand new clients who quickly caught the vision of a light airy space which made designing this bathroom pure delight.  And that joy comes through in the design from the gorgeous free standing tub and beautiful marble style tile to the zero entry shower, fabulous over sized chandelier, and custom vanities that make this bathroom a real show stopper.

Traditional Spa Bath

This last project was special.  My friends needed a sanctuary where they could unwind at the end of a day that not only met their needs but also lived large.  To accomplish this feat we visually enlarged the space by tearing out walls and using glass on shower walls along with stealing a few feet from a nearby room.  Then we created vanities that met their specific needs and designed an incredible focal point that included a floating candle wall, an enlarged photo of their own beach travel, and a freestanding tub that creates a real wow factor every time you enter the room.

Can’t Top This Boba Tea and Frozen Yogurt Store Interior Design and Branding

“Can’t Top This” is a brand new brand of boba tea and frozen yogurt store designed by Mindful Design Consulting. The new store is located at 2810 S Bay Street, Eustis, Florida.
Inspired by the idea of sweet and fresh, we chose pink, purple and orange as the main brand colors of the new store.  We combined them with more natural finishes such as concrete and wood for balance and contrast.
The curved ceiling accentuates the curves of the walls and the counter. The same curved lines were reflected in the epoxy floor treatment.  Recessed ornamental wall panels were used in combination with modern and industrial light pendants continuing the same contemporary theme.
We wanted to create a destination point and an inviting space for a local community of Estus, FL. The new design will attract passersby by its bright lighting and an intriguing interior.

Ted’s Grooming Emporium a New Dogs Grooming Store Interior Design

Ted’s Grooming Emporium is a pet store plus dogs grooming salon designed for dogs.  The store’s interior has a clean, playful and relaxed feel.
Ted, the owner’s pet, is the unofficial CEO and president of the store.  His photos are displayed in larger size inside the store. Ted was also the inspiration for the store’s logo.  We used the logo’s tones of blue as a starting point in our interior design.
Easy circulation inside the store was crucial and playtime was encouraged by the layout. We allowed for plenty of floor space and selected easy-to-move wooden shelving.  The pet store has a few different areas: bone-shaped tables for dog grooming, washing section with tubs and even a photography corner where you can take fun photos with your pooch against a beautiful wooden wall.

Sunny Ice Cream Store Interior Design by Mindful Design Consulting is a Striped Beauty

Scoops N Smiles is a new vibrant ice cream store brand located in Florida. With red, yellow and light blue as the brand colors, this ice cream store interior design concept was meant to be happy and cheerful.
This project was done on a very small budget.  We started the interior design with the existing concrete floors staining them in an oyster white hue. The stain gave the floors some visual depth while being simple and natural.
On the walls, we used logo colors painted stripes and stapled patterns. Paint is the cheapest material you can use if you are on a budget.  The bright yellow counter and furniture bring it that cheerful feel.  The contrasting geometric white tile wall is easy-to-clean and looks great with overall bright colors.  Chalkboard menus bring the final sophisticated touch to this simple interior on budget.

Georgian Style House in NYC Suburbs

Overall the room has been given a fresh, open and airy look by allowing natural light to diffuse throughout the room and keeping most shades white or thereabouts.
However the ornamental fireplace has been retained and various wood desks and artworks placed appropriately on the walls to maintain a Georgian element.

The client was a couple, both professionals who’d regularly have to travel into the city. Accordingly they wanted the living room to be comfortable enough for a snooze but also suitable for gatherings.
This has been done by bringing in very comfortable armchairs and sofas, adding lamps and the table in the middle with some artworks.

Relaxed Refined Farmhouse

Our Kerrie Kelly Design Lab clients wanted their space to look put-together and refined, yet durable and low-maintenance.
They were looking to create a home that was conducive for entertaining and hosting friends, but kid-friendly, too. They had ideas for specific elements, but needed our direction for the overall aesthetic.
The wife knew she definitely wanted a lot of blue and white, buffalo check, and a hint of Lucite and brass. The contemporary living room table was the perfect place to pull this look together as it features both Lucite and brass, and it’s one of the first things your eyes are drawn to upon entering the home.
Being a new-build, after we determined the initial materials and finishes, we immediately knew it would be stunning when completed.

Black, White + Brass

The Kerrie Kelly Design Lab team was thrilled to design the kitchen and living space of a former client in Northern California.
After they sold their last home and moved to a new project-house, they asked us to help them transform a few spaces in the common areas.
This active family of four (plus a few four-legged fur babies) spends a lot of time in the kitchen, nook and living area. Their love of a timeless aesthetic of clean lines, white tile and marble counters mixed with contemporary fixtures and open shelving was music to our ears.
As an added bonus, we were able to create a space that provided tranquility for the couple’s son who has Autism.
They shared that the thoughtful finishes and a simple aesthetic helped the entire family to thoroughly enjoy their new environment.

Modern Farmhouse Retreat

As designers with a love of Napa, we thoroughly enjoyed designing this home while showcasing function and beauty.
We live in an area where we can incorporate a farm to table lifestyle. Creating a Modern Farmhouse style was a great way to celebrate casual, family-oriented values.
The crisp and classic contrast of black and white accented with architectural details and natural elements provided a fresh take on a farmhouse for the team at Kerrie Kelly Design Lab.

This was a project we began several years ago. Last year we completed phase three of the project.
The project began with one apartment with the next phases being breaking through to the apartment next door and finally to a third apartment.
The most recent phase involved doing major renovation and enlarging the kitchen, adding a study, storage closet and hall and a guest room and en suite guest bathroom.
The concept revolved around the arts & crafts movement with a modern twist.

This was a complete renovation transforming a twenty-third floor apartment with 180 degree views of Manhattan.
The challenges involved finding a balance between the views and the client’s art collection in a transitional context.

Our challenge here was to transform a very conventional home into a more modern and contemporary space while still holding on to some of the traditional elements.

The comfortable chairs, the light colors, the ease with which natural lighting lights up the place…all the elements you need to just sit down and chat.

The challenge was to create something that would get with, not overwhelm, the natural sunlit atmosphere.
And we did that by sticking to light shades as much as possible, with the trees giving the right amount of shade to gift someone looking for a snooze fest the right atmosphere to just drift into the land of dreams.

Global Design - Turkish Style

This Edesign project was one of my favorites because it embodies many of the design trends for 2019, including getting away from gray and celebrating color, mixing colors, patterns, and textures, mixing metals, and mixing vintage and modern styles.
This design uses Sherwin Williams color of the year, “Cavern Clay” with modern art and furniture and a traditional rug, accents and lighting.

Bachelor Pad in a Trendy Neighborhood

This was the master bedroom that was part of a partial renovation of single bachelor pad for a 30-something attorney living in the trendy Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois.
Our client, who came as a referral, entrusted us with a blank slate and allowed us to apply our creative process to the existing backgrounds.
In the master bedroom we created a custom bed by Sunpan featuring a gorgeous ceiling by Phillip Jeffries.

Home Redesign for a Power Couple

This was a complete redesign of a house for a 30-something gay power couple living in the trendy Castro District in San Francisco. Our client, who is a former client of ours here in Chicago has entrusted us with multiple projects and was looking for a contemporary space to live and entertain in.
The emphasis for this project was to maximize the limited space of their urban home. We provided ample seating on custom sofas in the living room with a bold rich green and purple color scheme. The dining room was a continuation of the color scheme and accented with custom artwork on the ceiling. The artwork above the bar space took on an aeronautical theme.

Condo in Upscale Neighborhood

This was a complete design of newly constructed condo for a 30-something professional couple living in the trendy Fulton Market District of Chicago, Illinois.
Our clients, who came to us from Houzz.com, entrusted us with the design of their new home and allowed us to apply our creative process to create a warm inviting space to both live and entertain in. The emphasis for this project was to maximize the limited space of their urban condo.
We see open concept design with a less formal approach as the future of urban living. Custom commissioned artwork hides the entertainment center which glides open with a gentle touch.

Kitchen

The focus in designing this kitchen was on showing it to be clean and cozy while keeping a modern appearance. Hence the focus on light and air with relatively large windows, geometric shapes and a modern painting.

Media Room

Somewhat expectedly, the media room design has a professional movie theater baseline. Note how the chairs are placed and the lighting arrangement.
However, a homely comfort has been superimposed in the form of the alcoves containing personal effects on both sides of the media system, movie posters on the walls and the tables between the chairs to keep food or drinks on.

Bathroom

The focus in creating this bathroom was on relaxation. The client wanted a bathroom that they could relax in and accordingly a fresh, clean and airy environment was designed.

Monument Walk Library

Talk about the ultimate convergence of function and style!
We took a small walk-through space situated at the top of the stairs between the bedroom/bath and outdoor terrace and built a full wall of bookshelves.
Incorporating a rolling ladder and comfy furniture made the perfect spot for a very stylish and relaxing library.
Keeping the paint bright white did not overwhelm the small space but actually brightened what otherwise may have been boring and drab.
  • Custom Service & Hardware for ladder & equipment.
  • SW 7006 Extra White for paint.
  • Simms Development/Monument Walk builder in Dayton, OH.
  • Furnishings – Pier 1, HomeGoods, Uttermost & Rug Studio.

Parkside Row Den

To jazz up the room on the bottom level of this townhome, we covered the wall in plank wood, stained the concrete floors a golden color, painted the interior doors peppercorn and added lots of color for a yummy impact.
In an effort not to overwhelm the small space we chose to keep it simple with small scale furnishings.
  • Plank Wood Company for wall
  • SW 7674 Peppercorn
  • Simms Development/Parkside Row builder in Dayton, OH
  • Furnishings – HomeGoods, Wayfair, Flea Market in Virginia, Etsy’s Modernality.

Jamerson Kitchen/Family Room

Light and airy is the mantra for this kitchen and family room combination. There’s nothing quite like a rich touch of soothing blues for a low pressure lifestyle.
In the kitchen the white cabinetry paired with a blue island and built-in kitchen table make social gatherings easy peasy.
The table steps down off the island and can seat four to six people. The Silestone countertops mimic the clean look and feel of the overall space.
The subway tile pattern is a combination of 4” x 16” outlining a vertical 3” x 6” which creates a simple yet festive pattern.
A smart touch in the family room was to add built-in shelving into the staircase to store books and trinkets.  Instead of a formal coffer a simple pattern of ship lap and wood were used to carry forward the tone of simplicity.
  • SW 7604 Smoky Blue for island
  • Silestone Blanco Orion/Nebula countertops
  • Baker Street Subway tiles
  • O’Dwyer Homes Builder in Atlanta, GA
  • Furnishings – Macy’s & Uttermost

Lake House Remodel

This lake house remodel required much more kitchen square footage than what existed.
The homeowner also wanted to maintain the rustic look while imparting some sophistication.
We created a much larger island that moved the kitchen space out into the existing dining area, added updated grey cabinets, glass backsplash, stainless appliances, tiled throughout the kitchen and living area, added a rustic beam with Edison fixtures and whitewashed the fireplace.

Image Courtesy: Your Eminent Domain Interior Design

Master Bath Remodel

The bathroom consisted of 3 separate areas that we opened up to create a much larger spa like bathroom.  The contemporary tub has a backdrop of barn wood and rests on pebbles in a curved pattern meeting with white tumbled marble.

Foyer Remodel

This is a foyer that was a remodel.  We simply chose a patterned carpet to replace the existing boring beige, lightened the paint to a neutral grey, replaced the dated railing with wrought iron and a beefier newel post and added some complimentary wall art.

About

A graduate of the Chelsea College of Art and Design, Tara Eghdam takes care to get the color, pattern and texture right in her designs. She is fiercely non-partisan – she does not have any favorite design style. She mixes different styles to create exactly what the client needs.

Tara also likes selecting art pieces to accessorize interiors, whether interior or commercial.

I love this project for its chic style. In particular, the combination of old and modern accessories and furniture makes it stand out.
I like to use gold in my schemes as an accent colour to achieve a luxurious and chic look. It also adds warmth to the neutral colour schemes of the wall and the flooring as well as brightening up the whole space with its glow.
The smaller details like the table lamps and the door handle of the console table coordinate well with the rug and its pattern.

What I liked about designing this bedroom is that I was asked to create a luxury look on a small budget. The client didn’t want too many colours and wanted everything to be neutral.
I used silver schemes to make it chic as well as luminous. I used light pink textile to add a bit of warmth and make the room welcoming too.

In designing this living room I took care to keep the colour schemes harmonious. I also chose the optimum balance of textiles, accessories and furniture.
The design is modern. Once again I used gold pieces of furniture and accessories in order to create a chic style. The addition of a cool colour pallet of textiles made the room welcoming.

Nautanki Restaurant

In keeping with the demands of a gastronomic destination in one of India’s premier cities, Ms Gandhi designed the restaurant with a sedate darkish color scheme for the walls, faintish yellow lighting arrangements to put people in the mood for a feast and with peacock designs in the alcoves beside each table.

Seaside Center in Delaware

The purpose of this project was to connect with the natural forested areas nearby.
Accordingly, care was taken to ensure full views of the outside world. Natural light was a key component of the lighting arrangements. The design was kept neat with a stress on open spaces to simulate the great outdoors.
To top it all off, a water body was added to the rear end of the building to give a feeling of peace and tranquility.

Rollin’ Stone Lofts, Philadelphia

This was a senior center. The key part of this design was to make sure it had a ‘living space’ feel and not a ‘hospital’ feel.
The project used the language of mill architecture to inform material choices and industrial theme interiors.

About

The three words Marian chooses to describe her style are ‘active, sensitive and creative’.

She’s very active when on a project and highly conscientious about meeting deadlines, sensitive to what her clients need and creative enough to create innovative solutions to meet any practical requirements that may be there in the project all the while maintaining an artistic quality.

Her father was an electrical engineer and right from a young age she developed an interest in drawing designs for things that had practical utility. And thus, her passion for design is not based simply on creating pretty things but on creating spaces that inspire a sense of peacefulness, contentedness, and joy.

This is personal home for a government official in Egypt.
The color scheme is based on a creamy shade that Marian finds very calming and which goes very well with deep brown, which she uses to bring in a sense of class.
Marian’s passion for creativity and innovation truly comes out in the color schemes she designs. Like here, she used hidden lights to reflect the beauty of the marble floors. And for wall coverings, she chose textured ones that have greater depth and space for the delicate motifs to really play out for the eyes.

Bronx Beauty

This project is all about the kitchen.  We transformed a dark, narrow kitchen with heavy wooden cabinets and fussy hardware.  A spacious 400 square feet, we reflected the family’s modern leanings in a luxurious yet cozy design, while playing with the Riverdale, Bronx’s home’s traditional bones to create a space that is open, warm, thoughtful and considered.  The rich, blue solid wood cabinets are artisanally crafted locally.

Lovely Lefferts Gardens

My favorite room in this project is the master bathroom.  Unique, floor to ceiling windows in an oversized shower, with beautiful, navy blue penny tiles gracing the walls and floor.  Everything else is white - the walls, the vanity and the double sinks, making for a true oasis.  The simple, modern, blue and white theme continues through the rest of the house, from the serene home office overlooking oak trees, to the cozy, breakfast nook with custom leather banquette.

Delightful Ditmas Park

Ditmas Park is a Brooklyn neighborhood filled with character, and one of the only neighborhoods in NYC with large, one-family Victorian homes.  I had the pleasure of renovating one of these beauties, and worked to blend classic with modern design.  The formal dining room features original stained glass, and I had fun pulling out the Evergreen and Mauve colors from the glass in the sideboard and chairs.  A dark mahogany, almost black dining table and chairs add drama and contrast to an otherwise cheerful space.  The kitchen takes a turn for the super modern, with custom LED pantry, dark aqua subway tile backsplash, and a wine cooler built in to the sleek, white island.

Penthouse

Winner of Kitchen of the Year 2019, this contemporary black kitchen uses all the elements of design to create a harmonious space using black and cream white cabinetry with rose gold hardware, stools, faucet and lighting fixtures.

This swanky remodeled 3 story duplex is located in the heart of Cardiff-by-the-Sea. I pulled out every design element to give this place the edgy contemporary modern look the client requested. It speaks sophistication with a fully functional kitchen surrounded with custom black cabinets, modern appliances and touches of rose gold and brass. Living room concepts compliments the sunsets with blues and oranges.

Spanish Modern Residence

The Spanish modern design not only embraces the architecture of the home but complements it. I love how this has a clean look and casual vibe.  The detailed talavera tiles and juju hats add color and interest to the space.

This Spanish Charmer is located in old Solana Beach with big ocean views and incredible architectural elements. We fully renovated the space with a new kitchen layout, open plan, custom furniture emphasizing the view and the beautiful architecture. The new design brings a Spanish modern feeling to the space and updated materials and fixtures, achieving a classic and lasting space that is both aesthetic and functional.

Berg Residence

A coastal, smart home with indoor/outdoor living was the brief given to this project involving a two-storey, 5 bedrooms, 4.5-bathroom residence. Light wood floors, neutrals with pops of colors teamed with blues, greens and brass accents.
The scope of work allowed a full remodel with a playroom addition and lots of structural changes.
The design is a study in natural light, harmony and layered texture. It was great to work with each of the 5 family members, including a 11, a 7 and a 3-year-old and designing for such creative minds. The result involved hanging chairs, climbing beds and lots of fun.

Vanguard’s motto is ‘Design as it should be’.

Vanguard believes that the design process should be an enjoyable and a rewarding one for clients and accordingly it sticks to a WISIWIG (What I See Is What I Get) principle throughout its design process, beginning from ideation and rendering and ending at the completed project.

Hallway Design

If you hadn’t guessed already this was meant to evoke a so-called ‘corridor power’ feeling and it does exactly that via the heavyset design and the dark colours.

Restaurant Design

This was a modern restaurant and accordingly we ensured a bright, cheery feeling while ensuring comfort via comfortable chairs, marble-topped tables and the floor to ceiling window offering a grand view of the surroundings.

Exterior Design

The focus here was on blending modern with retro.
We did that by creating top to bottom windows to allow people a sweeping view of the surroundings while adding thick curtains for privacy but chose materials and a colour scheme to evoke feelings of wood and stone.

Private House Vanagines Sodai

The focus on this project was to keep things crisp and modern.
Hence the trendy stools, the practicality of the design (cupboards along the walls) and the simple white colour.

Private house, Kaunas, Lithuania

This was more of a conservative design project and accordingly we used stained tiles to give an aged feel to the room while also creating a lighting arrangement to diffuse the natural light and maintain a soothing feeling in the room at all times of the day.

Private interior, House by the Forest

This is another design which is based on modernity but it has an element of fashion and comfort in it.
Hence the brighter colour scheme (as compared with the first example), the abundance of comfortable seating arrangements (the sofas) and the elaborate lighting system.

Goldene Gams

The Goldene Gams is a Restaurant/Bar nestled in the beautiful town Kitzbühel, Austria. It was once known as the perfect spot for pre-dinner drinks and afternoon tea, after a day out on the slopes. We took the charm of this cozy, family run restaurant and transformed it into a modern hangout with a touch of elegance. Design aspects such as comfy banquettes, nude color palettes and warm Bocci 84 lights, help invite guests into the space and bring a wave of relaxation.

The building itself has some historic elements that we wanted to keep and celebrate, such as the 200-year-old ceiling in the bar area. With these snippets of old and our input of new, we managed to reclaim the perfect spot for this magical restaurant. Design is all fun and exciting, but the most important part is user experience. Our design for Goldene Gams helped to create a homely atmosphere, encouraging guests to sit back, relax and enjoy.

Bohemian Winter

Coppa Club’s Winter 18/19 terrace was built around a Bavarian bohemian concept. Birch and ivy were adorned to the structural beams and dressed with fairy lights to bring some warmth. Reclaimed chalet furniture and sheepskin rugs and throws were used to dress the igloos, along with Designer Ay Illuminate lights.

Warm tones and selected prints all work together to create the perfect Winter spot by the Thames. 360 design experience is a major aspect of our work here at TO, so it is important to us that we set the right mood with our designs to ensure the best user experience. The small details add that extra layer, such as the firelight net, cut logs and black framed lanterns and those then help transform the terrace into a hidden Winter Wonderland.

31 Below

The main concept for this Café and Bar space was the ‘detox-retox’ principle. The ground floor welcomes you with a British garden area styled with plush banquettes and foliage surrounding a sky light. This ‘detox’ area consists of the café where you can order smoothies, juices and delicious meals. As you descend the stripped back staircase into the ‘retox’ portion, you are transported into an underground tropical bar.

Raw materials on show creates a cool aesthetic along with the red vintage bar and brown leather upholstery. This place is perfect for any mood, with its different concepts and spaces, creating a go-to spot for all the locals. The end result hit the nail on the head in terms of the original brief, which was to create a cool hangout on Marylebone high street. There is something for everyone at 31 Below, which makes for a richer and successful user experience.

For this design project, my client wanted to incorporate a glamour touch with natural elements. As a result, we found the perfect storage bench for her family's personal items that allows for comfortable seating while removing or placing of shoes.

Image Courtesy: Dawn to Dusk Designs

This is one of my best designs for 2018. Located in Korea Town, in the heart of Los Angeles, my client wanted a modern and chic office that expresses her own personality.  With a magnificent view from her window, the natural lighting will help with work productivity at its best.

Image Courtesy: Dawn to Dusk Designs

This office space is by far my best design project for 2018 because it holds a very special place in my heart.

Why?

Because aside from being an Interior Design professional, I am also a Mental Health Counselor and in this office I hold group and individual counseling sessions with students ranging from middle school through high school. What makes it special is the vibrant color palette I selected starting with the lavender wall that was already established.

Because I couldn't change the color of the wall, it placed certain limitations to how much I was able to design and as a result I used this beautiful vibrant floral shawl, that's over the bookcase, as my design inspiration to create the rest of the color palette throughout the office space--which includes pinks, yellows, gold, and purple hues.

Additionally, I rearranged the furniture, brought in a myriad of sensory stimulation decor pieces such as the mermaid pillows, a water fountain, and various toys to help create a calming, peaceful, and fun environment for the students, teachers, and staff.

Needless to say, everyone loves the space.

The family room for this luxury Mediterranean residence shows elegance and warmth, with traditional architectural features met with modern touches in the furniture selection.

Granada Residence

This tropical covered terrace is a beautiful space to gather family and friends; where traditional concrete tile inserts simulate an area rug and gives a sense of intimacy to the outside. The cool blue tones of the tile hints at the ocean and along with the rattan furniture, billowy cream color curtains and palm leaf ceiling fans gives an airy and inviting environment.

It’s clear that most designers follow some common trends.

An overwhelming consensus is that it’s important to let the client’s personality show in the design.

Some designers are choosing to adopt a contemporary baseline and then adding classic or modern elements in their design.

Light is a very important factor. Does the design warrant artificial lighting? Or should it be natural light that should be allowed to flow through the design area?

Did you like the work of anyone especially? Or did you spot a trend that you like? Feel free to comment below and get a lively discussion going on the interior designer to watch out for in 2019.
